Carol’s New Job – Day 4

Pushchair

Believe me, this will not be a daily epistle – it is just while we struggle to overcome Carol’s “settling in” period in the new locum role in Brynmawr – primarily in light of the Winter conditions. After seeing the photographs Carol took yesterday of the conditions at the top of The Heads of the Valleys Road, I insisted on driving her to work myself in the land Rover. It seemed totally absurd for her to be driving into heavy snow and ice in a Corsa while the Land Rover sits outside the house. Carol does not feel confident enough to drive it herself, because she cannot see over the end of the bonnet (or “hood” to our Trans-Atlantic brothers). Well, it’s a Land rover – does that matter? I’m hoping to persuade her to drive it herself tomorrow. Well, main roads are fine, even our driveway and our private road (sounds posh doesn’t it!) is passable again. But the last few miles into Brynmawr is horrendous. No effort has been made by the Council, or local shopkeepers for that matter, to clear the pavements, and conditions are lethal for all pedestrians, particularly the elderly. Sorry to sound like an old fart – but when I was young the first thing shopkeepers did was to clear their patch outside their shop doors. Hmm? Now, go in, turn on the lights and computers, make tea, then watch all the poor buggers falling outside your window! No!

OK, grouse over.

Anyway, here’s a piccie especially for Chris & Irina, just to prove how hardy the kids are in Brynmawr! This has got to be worthy of some captions! Any ideas folks?
