Starting this morning with a photograph that I should know the relations, as I am sure that Nonie has told me in the past who they are – but inevitably I have forgotten. Hence the importance of getting as much information as possible accurately written down. If anyone can help, click on the comments caption at the end of this blog – quote the picture number, and enlighten us all. Can I also remind any family members that I can supply them with the full sized scanned copies if they wish to have a print of their own

This is certainly the Creagh side of the family.

Addendum;-
Once again, Nonie proves to be a fountain of information. This is taken from her comment below.
Photo 55 is Auntie Nano (after whom I was called) she belongs to the Kerry side of the family, and whilst not a close relative my mother was very close to her and my Mam spent a lot of time with her. The gentleman is obviously her husband, all I know is that she lived in Headford and as she was called Auntie Nano I think she actually was my Mam’s Grandaunt from the Doherty side. My Mam’s grandfather (Jackie Johneen) was Doherty – a very big mam and my Mam spent most of her childhood in his house in Knockanes, Headford, Co. Kerry. She spoke of them all her life.

Thanks Nonie. Lots of other mystery photos to solve. PLEASE keep the information – and more photographs coming

(52)
This I believe is my brother Paul Kavanagh

(53)
This photograph is of myself and Ernie Sands – who went on to become a priest. He now seems to spend his time writing Hymns and liturgical tracks. Taken in 1968 at the quinta south of Lisbon

(54)
On the other end of the scale, taken of myself just over two years later in London. This picture suffered with censorship, as the caption on the wall behind was not very complimentary toward the Pope, and my first wife decided to remove it with a scissors.

(55)
A photograph taken of my son Anthony, my daughter Clair & myself at Banc Yr Allt in Bridgend

(56)
This is another photograph of my father in uniform. It links in with a previously added photo (obviously the same setting) taken with an unknown woman.

(57)
Officers 852 Squadron

(58)
August 21st 1944, HMS Nabob. Aircraft ready for strike

(59)
Marked as 759 (Spitfire) Maintenance Squadron, HMS Heron, August 1943

(60)
A rare photograph taken on HMS Nabob showing one of the major hazards of operating an aircraft carrier during the Russian Convoys – scraping ice from the decks. Note the Swordfish aircraft, which were probablbly the only craft that could get airborne in these conditions. Landing was probably impossible though.

(61)
HMS Nabob, I believe at San Francisco

(62)
My son will probably kill me for adding this one, but if he was daft enough to have it taken! Anthony & his wife Lisa

(63)
Sorry about the chaos of the order in which these photographs are coming out of the box. I decided at the outset not to discriminate. This proves it. This is another of fathers war-time photographs. Marked “HMS Kempthorne coming alongside to take off the wounded. August 22nd 1944″

(64)
Jim & Tessy Spender’s girls (Anne & Margaret?). Marked on the back “Castle Studios Cardiff. Reprints quote ML 389″ Anyone want to try?

(65)
Ian Creagh, 12th Feb 61

(66)
My mother Nellie Kavanagh & myself. I even had strange hair then.

Nonie confirms that this is myself ” a cheerful little creature” – maybe not. Taken in Ballyporeen, opposite the family home

(67)
Tessy & Jim’s girls again. Love the sofa in the garden!

(68)
A more up to date photograph now. Members of the Creagh family. Nonie (on the left) and Jim (second from right) – but need to be sure of the others please.

Thanks to Paula for updating me on this one (see comments below). Of course, Michael Creagh’s family. I need names though. Thanks again Paula. Keep the info coming.

And thanks also to Nonie for identifying everyone.
From Nonie – Paula is correct on the one of Michael children taken at your father’s funeral at 4 Highland Close (in the Kitchen) Michael Creagh on extreme right, Con (the good looking fellow and his former wife beside Patricia, and you know the rest.

I should have recognised my parents kitchen!

(69)
Love this one. Written on the back “28/5/63 [or 82?] Ian almost 1yr 10months on Alice Lynchs bike”.

(70)
Another mystery. Any ideas?

I must get around to cleaning some of these photographs up one day, although the stains carry their own history. My father is among this group. I haven’t had any success yet finding out any more about 759 Spitfire Maintenance. I was surprised to find that HMS Heron is, or was, the shore base in Yeovilton. I have vague memories as a child being taken there to visit a wartime friend of my Dad’s (a Johnny Whitehouse if my memory is right. How did I come up with that name !?). I can only presume this is where he trained as an Airframe Mechanic. My father was a carpenter by trade, so presumably his role was actually making and repairing much of the wooden frames on the aircraft.

Any information would be appreciated
